The governor highlighted a planned mega rally and the inauguration of a political group loyal to Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike as potential sources of unrest. He warned that such events could incite violence and disrupt Bayelsa’s stability. Diri emphasized the state’s commitment to resisting the importation of the political crisis from Rivers State, urging all citizens to avoid being manipulated by political interests.
In response to Diri’s concerns, Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, dismissed the claims as baseless. Olayinka criticized the Bayelsa governor for using Wike’s name to distract from his governance issues, questioning the necessity of convening a security council meeting based on mere speculation. He also defended the right of Nigerians to support any political figure of their choice, suggesting that Diri’s fears were exaggerated.
