Despite African powerhouses like Al Ahly of Egypt and Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa securing spots, Nigerian clubs, including the prestigious Enyimba International of Aba, failed to qualify. Enyimba, the only Nigerian club to have previously won the CAF Champions League, lost out after a 3-0 defeat to Zamalek in the qualifiers.
This exclusion highlights the persistent struggles Nigerian football faces, including poor local league organization, inconsistent player contracts, and a lack of professional management in club administration. Mozez Praiz, a sports broadcaster, stressed the importance of professionalism and better management for Nigerian football to compete on the global stage.
