Morka emphasized that those commenting on the issue were politically biased, asserting that Fubara had been making undemocratic decisions since he assumed office. He pointed out that Fubara had attempted to replace the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly shortly after his election. When the attempt failed, Fubara allegedly demolished the Assembly complex, effectively halting legislative activities. Despite these actions, Morka claimed that opposition voices, including Peter Obi, remained silent.

In defense of the state of emergency, Morka stated that President Tinubu acted within the provisions of Section 305 of the Nigerian Constitution, which permits the President to declare a state of emergency in cases of national security threats. He noted that intelligence reports indicated growing security risks in Rivers, including threats to critical oil infrastructure, particularly after the Trans Niger Pipeline (TNP) was reportedly vandalized.

Momodu had argued that a pairing of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi could perform strongly in the election, citing their past collaboration in 2019 and Obi’s 2023 electoral performance.

Responding, Tanko questioned the logic of choosing a candidate who might win a primary but lose the general election, insisting that the Obi–Kwankwaso combination would be more formidable.
