Nigeria has been ranked third among African countries in terms of generosity, according to the World Giving Index 2024 by the Charity Aid Foundation (CAF). The report highlights Nigeria’s significant role in fostering a culture of giving and kindness, securing the #5 spot globally.
Kenya, which leads the African list, ranks second worldwide, showcasing an extraordinary spirit of generosity amidst rising challenges such as unemployment and the increasing cost of living. According to the World Giving Index, Kenya’s position reflects the “utu” spirit, a symbol of humanity and community effort.
The Gambia holds the second position in Africa and ranks #4 globally, followed by Liberia and Nigeria. Despite facing their own unique socio-economic challenges, these countries have demonstrated a strong culture of volunteering and donating.
The World Giving Index report also revealed that in 2022, approximately 4.2 billion people around the world either donated money, volunteered their time, or helped a stranger, a figure representing 72% of the global adult population.
