Kogi State Governor, Usman Ododo, has assured that the state government will actively support the rebuilding of the GSM village at Kpata in Lokoja, following a destructive fire outbreak on Thursday. This critical hub for local businesses and livelihoods was severely damaged, leaving many without their means of income.
During his visit to the scene, Governor Ododo assessed the extent of the damage and expressed deep concern over the devastating impact. He also extended his sympathy to the affected traders and business owners, promising to assist them in recovering from this major setback.
“The GSM village not only provides a legitimate and sustainable source of livelihood for numerous youths and women in the state, but it also plays a crucial role in boosting our economy,” Ododo stated during his address.
Immediate Relief Measures Promised
Governor Ododo announced that immediate relief measures would be implemented to support the affected business owners. He reassured the victims that plans to rebuild the market and restore their property were already underway.
The governor’s visit has reignited hope among traders and residents, who expressed gratitude for his prompt response. Many of them, motivated by the governor’s encouragement, have pledged to rebuild their businesses and emerge stronger as a community.
Economic Impact and Community Solidarity
The GSM village has long been a thriving center for small businesses, especially for youth and women, contributing significantly to Kogi State’s economy. The fire’s destruction has been a severe blow to the local economy, but the governor’s intervention and commitment to rebuild have restored optimism among those affected.
