Minister Declares: New National Values Charter To Reshape Nigeria’s Future....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The Federal Government has expressed its readiness to begin implementing the National Values Charter, according to Mohammed Idris, the Minister of Information and National Orientation. Speaking in Abuja on Wednesday during the expanded retreat of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Idris highlighted the Charter as a key initiative aimed at promoting awareness of constitutional rights and obligations.

The National Values Charter, developed by the Ministry of Information through the NOA, is designed to ensure that all Nigerians understand their constitutional rights and protections, as well as the responsibilities of governments at all levels to uphold these rights.

“The first goal is to make sure that every Nigerian knows their rights under the constitution and the laws of the land, while ensuring that governments are equally aware of their constitutionally mandated duties to the people. This is captured in the seven ‘Core Promises’ of the Charter,” Idris explained.

He further elaborated that the Charter also aims to remind citizens of their responsibilities to one another and to the nation. “The second goal emphasizes the need for all Nigerians to be aware of their duties to each other, the government, and the country, as outlined in the seven ‘Commitments’ of the Charter,” he added.

The minister expressed his determination to advance the vision of creating a nation where mutual respect and love between citizens and the government thrive. He praised the National Orientation Agency for its role in shaping national conversations, fostering unity, and promoting a sense of belonging in the country’s diverse population.

Idris also commended NOA Director General, Mr. Lanre Issa-Onilu, for modernizing the agency’s operations by integrating technology to enhance public engagement and awareness.

“I am pleased to see that under Mr. Issa-Onilu’s leadership, the NOA has embraced technology, using tools like the Mobiliser App and an AI platform for civic awareness and engagement,” he said.

He concluded by describing the expanded retreat as a crucial step toward refining the NOA’s vision and advancing efforts to shape the future of Nigeria.

Human rights lawyer Frank Tietie has criticized the nomination and subsequent confirmation of Professor Abayomi Fasina, the former Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, as a non-career ambassador designate.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

  • Prior to his confirmation, a coalition of civil society organizations protested at the National Assembly on July 7, 2026, opposing Fasina’s nomination due to pending court cases involving allegations of sexual harassment, human rights violations, and victimization.

  • Despite these protests, the Nigerian Senate officially confirmed Fasina’s appointment as a non-career ambassador on Thursday.

Frank Tietie’s Position

  • During an interview on ARISE Television, Tietie argued that nominating an individual with such “baggage” was a mistake, emphasizing that ambassadors represent Nigeria in the same capacity as the President.

  • Tietie stated that the government should have sent the “right signals” by avoiding such controversial appointments, especially given the current state of governance.

  • He argued that even in the absence of a final court judgment, the allegations themselves have “tainted” Fasina’s reputation, and the Senate should have delayed the confirmation until the legal matters were resolved.

  • Tietie also suggested that the National Assembly’s decision overlooks significant social changes regarding how such allegations are now viewed by society.
