Federal Civil Service Unveils War Rooms to Drive Reforms Under Strategy Plan 2021-2025....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In a major move aimed at reforming Nigeria’s civil service, Didi Walson-Jack, the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, has announced the creation of “War Rooms.” These critical hubs will focus on managing and monitoring the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan (FCSSIP) 2021-2025. Walson-Jack emphasized that these War Rooms are crucial in pushing forward civil service reforms.

According to Walson-Jack, each War Room will target the six main pillars and key enablers of the reform plan. She noted that these rooms are “intended to tackle the specific challenges associated with each pillar,” thereby driving successful implementation across the board. The announcement was made during a retreat held in Zuba, Niger State, attended by Federal Permanent Secretaries.

Role of the War Rooms in Civil Service Reforms

The War Rooms, set to be led by Permanent Secretaries, will bring together all essential stakeholders to ensure swift and coordinated action. Walson-Jack stated that the primary objective is to “win” these reform “wars” and achieve the successful transformation of the civil service for the benefit of both public servants and the Nigerian populace.

Key Focus Areas of FCSSIP 2021-2025

During the retreat, the Federal Permanent Secretaries conducted a review of the six pillars and enablers of the FCSSIP-25 plan. The review was spearheaded by Dr. Deborah Bako Odoh, Permanent Secretary of the Service Policies and Strategies Office. During these sessions, new Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and additional activities were proposed to further enrich the plan and align with the government’s reform targets.

The Central Role of Technology

One of the key issues discussed during the retreat was the centralization of technology solutions. The participants highlighted the importance of technology in driving the successful implementation of the Enterprise Content Management and Performance Management Systems within the public service. They stressed that by centralizing these systems, processes can be streamlined, ensuring uniformity across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), thus improving overall efficiency and transparency in service delivery.

A Collective Commitment to Service Transformation

Permanent Secretaries like Fatima Mahmood, Career Management Office, and Raymond Omachi, Common Services Office, praised the event’s participants for their active involvement and dedication. Mahmood noted that the retreat represented a collective commitment to transforming Nigeria’s public service into a more efficient, innovative, and service-oriented institution.

Key Topics Explored at the Retreat

The three-day retreat featured insightful discussions on various subjects including creativity, innovation, and the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to boost productivity in the public sector. Sessions also delved into important themes like Enterprise Content Management, digitalization, and the Performance Management System, aligning them with the six FCSSIP-25 pillars to ensure a robust strategy moving forward.

Former Minister of Education, Obiageli Ezekwesili, has called on Nigerians to stop targeting the general overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Enoch Adeboye, with their frustrations regarding the state of the nation. She contends that the clergyman is being incorrectly singled out and is not to blame for Nigeria’s current difficulties.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Ezekwesili emphasized the following points in her statement:

  • She characterized Adeboye as a humble servant of God who has spent his life advocating for peace and national development.

  • While acknowledging that many Nigerians want religious leaders to be more vocal in demanding government accountability, she maintained that Adeboye has consistently offered prayers and spoken up for the nation.

  • She explained that long-standing issues—such as systemic corruption, economic hardship, and insecurity—have left Nigerians exhausted and deeply distrustful of politicians, institutions, and influential figures.

  • She warned that the country has a tendency to prioritize less significant issues rather than addressing urgent national crises.

  • Ezekwesili noted that while Adeboye typically responds to criticism with “dignified silence,” she felt compelled to speak publicly to refocus attention on the “urgency of this moment” and the core issue: the need for religious leaders to help rescue the nation from “ineffectual, corrupt, and selfish politicians”.

The security operation led to significant disruptions, including:

  • Checkpoints and barricades were established on major roads leading to the Villa, restricting both vehicular and pedestrian traffic.

  • Many employees were unable to reach their workplaces due to these movement restrictions.

  • Heavy traffic congestion occurred along the corridors of the Supreme Court, the National Assembly, and the Federal Secretariat, leaving many commuters stranded and forcing others to find alternative routes.

The demonstration, organized by human rights activist and African Action Congress presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore alongside the Take It Back Movement, was planned to begin at Eagle Square before moving toward the Presidential Villa. The primary goal of the protest is to demand the immediate release of all victims kidnapped nationwide. Furthermore, organizers have called for President Bola Tinubu to either ensure the safety and release of the captives or resign, citing a perceived failure of the government to protect citizens. This protest reflects growing public outcry regarding the frequency of school attacks and kidnappings, as well as a broader demand for increased accountability and improved security across Nigeria.
