A combined security detachment has commenced operations along the Arigidi Okeagbe road and other highways in Akokoland, targeting criminals who have been attacking motorcyclists and stealing their motorcycles. This initiative comes in response to a disturbing rise in violence, with over five motorcyclists, commonly referred to as Okada riders, brutally murdered in recent weeks along this route.
The most recent incident occurred on Sunday, when Ibitoye Adewale, another Okada rider, was attacked on the Ikaram Akunu highway. He sustained severe bodily injuries and was left for dead while his motorcycle was stolen. Fortunately, sources indicate that Adewale has been referred to the Federal Medical Centre in Owo for treatment.
Community Response to Rising Violence
Reports have emerged detailing the rapid response of local vigilante groups and the Amotekun corps, which successfully led to the arrest of one of the attackers in the nearby bush. The Akala of Ikaram, Oba Andrew Momodu, has expressed his concerns over the ongoing attacks on motorcyclists.
