A new chapter in Nigeria’s food processing industry is unfolding as A.R.N Foods Limited announces its partnership with AGI Milltec, a renowned multinational manufacturing company, to construct a state-of-the-art rice mill in Epe, Lagos State. This collaboration aims to address the country’s pressing food challenges and enhance local rice production.

Signing of the Contract

The official agreement was signed by A.R.N Foods’ Chairman, Nola Adetola, on Friday in Lagos. The rice mill is expected to have a production capacity of 8 tons per hour (TPH), marking a significant investment in Nigeria’s agricultural sector. According to Adetola, this venture not only signifies A.R.N Foods’ commitment to food processing but also highlights its dedication to sustainability and food safety.

Addressing Food Security

Describing the partnership as a vital step in tackling Nigeria’s food problems, Adetola emphasized the long-term vision of the project. “We did not want to just produce rice for one year or two; we wanted something that would last,” he stated. He expressed confidence in AGI Milltec’s expertise and history in the industry, aiming to build a collaborative relationship that fosters growth and innovation.

Creating Job Opportunities

The A.R.N Foods chairman also stressed the broader impact of this partnership, which goes beyond profit-making. He noted, “We imagined the number of people that will be working in this factory when it is done, directly and indirectly.” This initiative is expected to significantly reduce unemployment and contribute positively to the Nigerian economy.

Expanding Food Production

With two years of rebranding as a food processing company, A.R.N Foods has already established itself as a supplier of various staple foods, including paddy rice, maize, soybeans, and sorghum. Chief Operating Officer Muhuydeen Giwa shared insights about the company’s goals, stating that the partnership with AGI Milltec aims to expand their capacity to tackle food insufficiency in Nigeria.

Giwa explained, “You realize that it’s not that the rice mill has not been in existence, but because we are partnering with AGI Milltec, we believe that we will be able to reduce our costs, enhance the quality, and provide accessibility of this product all year round.”

Expertise and Support from AGI Milltec

Emmanuel del Pozzo, Head of the Africa Region for AGI Milltec, emphasized the quality and expertise that the company brings to the table, which is well-recognized among consumers of foreign rice. He confirmed that AGI Milltec would work closely with Cremona Construction, led by Managing Director Guido Firetti, who pledged to provide technical support for the project.

Firetti praised the rice mill initiative, committing his company to ensuring timely delivery and execution of the project.

Future Aspirations

Vincent Matthews, the Business Development Manager for AGI Milltec in Nigeria, shared that the Epe Rice mill is specifically designed to cater to Nigerian paddy varieties. He highlighted the ambitious vision of Chairman Nola, stating, “This plant is going to be able to achieve the quality levels that he is expecting.” Matthews added that the facility is intended not just for local consumption but also aims for future export potential.

Human rights lawyer Frank Tietie has criticized the nomination and subsequent confirmation of Professor Abayomi Fasina, the former Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, as a non-career ambassador designate.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

  • Prior to his confirmation, a coalition of civil society organizations protested at the National Assembly on July 7, 2026, opposing Fasina’s nomination due to pending court cases involving allegations of sexual harassment, human rights violations, and victimization.

  • Despite these protests, the Nigerian Senate officially confirmed Fasina’s appointment as a non-career ambassador on Thursday.

Frank Tietie’s Position

  • During an interview on ARISE Television, Tietie argued that nominating an individual with such “baggage” was a mistake, emphasizing that ambassadors represent Nigeria in the same capacity as the President.

  • Tietie stated that the government should have sent the “right signals” by avoiding such controversial appointments, especially given the current state of governance.

  • He argued that even in the absence of a final court judgment, the allegations themselves have “tainted” Fasina’s reputation, and the Senate should have delayed the confirmation until the legal matters were resolved.

  • Tietie also suggested that the National Assembly’s decision overlooks significant social changes regarding how such allegations are now viewed by society.
