The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has initiated an investigation into a vessel apprehended by the Nigerian Navy Ship NNS FORMOSSO in Brass, Bayelsa State. This vessel, named Bravo Alero, was found transporting 200 liters of suspected illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO).

In a statement shared on its official X account, the EFCC reported that its operatives from the Port Harcourt Zonal Directorate have begun scrutinizing the vessel, believed to be linked to oil theft activities in the Niger Delta region. Following its arrest, the NNS FORMOSSO handed over Bravo Alero to the EFCC for further investigation and prosecution.

Captain Ifeanyichukwu Mabeokwu of NNS FORMOSSO expressed gratitude to the EFCC for their support and voiced confidence in the Commission’s ability to conduct a thorough investigation and prosecution of the case. He emphasized the importance of ongoing collaboration in the fight against illegal oil bunkering in the Niger Delta.

Receiving the vessel on behalf of the EFCC, Chief Superintendent Shittu Babatunde assured the Navy of a prompt and professional investigation. This partnership highlights a concerted effort to combat the persistent issue of oil theft, which has significant economic implications for the country.
