Dangote Refinery Sets Pricing Strategy Amid Fuel Price Hike in Nigeria
Dangote Refinery Sets Pricing Strategy Amid Fuel Price Hike in Nigeria....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The Nigerian Presidency has announced that Dangote Refinery will not sell its products, including Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), below the official market price. This decision comes as the refinery, led by Aliko Dangote, officially commenced petroleum production, marking a significant development in Nigeria’s energy sector.
During the launch, Mr. Dangote explained that the pricing strategy for refined petroleum products would be established through collaborative efforts between the Federal Executive Council (FEC) and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited. This strategy highlights the government’s regulatory role and the NNPC’s industry expertise in determining fair pricing.
Recent Fuel Price Increases
In related news, filling stations operated by the NNPC across Nigeria have recently implemented a significant increase in fuel prices, with rates soaring above N850 per litre. Reports from SaharaReporters indicate that this price hike aligns with a directive from NNPC management, which mandated an immediate adjustment of the official fuel price from N568 to N855 per litre. This adjustment has major implications for consumers and the national economy, as rising fuel prices can lead to increased transportation and living costs.
Dangote Refinery’s Pricing Authority
A report from Bloomberg further revealed that the Nigerian government would grant Dangote Refinery the authority to set gasoline prices for petroleum marketers starting next month. According to top government sources, this change means that petrol marketers will be permitted to purchase products directly from the Dangote Refinery, allowing for more competitive pricing in the market.
Temitope Ajayi, the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Publicity, emphasized that Dangote Refinery is a private enterprise aimed at profit-making and will not sell its products below market value. Ajayi stated, “I don’t see how NNPC or the federal government will control the price for a private business.” He noted that the role of the petroleum industry regulator is to ensure product quality and fair pricing, preventing businesses from exploiting consumers.
