An 18-year-old girl, Habibat Akinsanya, who had been reported missing, was tragically found dead on her father’s farm in Obasa, Mile 6, along Ajebo Road, Abeokuta, Ogun State. The gruesome discovery was made on Sunday, revealing multiple machete wounds to her head and body, with her hands tied behind her back.
According to reliable police sources, Akinsanya was sexually assaulted before being brutally murdered. The case, which is being treated as a premeditated murder by the Ogun State Police Command, has shocked the local community and sparked a police investigation.
A police source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, hinted that the murder might be linked to a revenge attack on the family. However, they refrained from providing further details when asked if it was related to cult activities.
The deceased’s father, Shamsuddeen Akinsanya, had reported his daughter missing to the Kemta Police Division on August 31, 2024. According to reports, Habibat left home on August 30 to assist her sister, who operates a Point of Sale (POS) business in the Kemta area. It was there that she was allegedly approached by Onyeka, a worker for the family, who lured her to the farm under the guise of helping with the cassava harvest.
The family grew suspicious when Habibat did not return home, leading her father to alert the police. The police began tracking a phone number from which a demand for money had been made, leading them to search Oke Egunya, Totoro, for hours. Unfortunately, this search did not yield results until the tragic discovery of Habibat’s body on her father’s farm.
Ogun State Police Command spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, confirmed on Monday that an investigation is underway to uncover the full circumstances surrounding the murder. A manhunt has been launched to apprehend Onyeka, who is currently at large.

Court Sentences Man to Four Years for ₦16 Million Money Laundering, Forfeits G-Wagon
A Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, has sentenced Sunmonu Olasunkanmi Thaoban to four years in prison for laundering ₦16 million by disguising its illegal origins and converting it into a 2018 black G-Wagon Jeep.

Guilty Plea & Sentencing: Justice Akintayo Aluko handed down the sentence on Thursday after Thaoban pleaded guilty to a two-count EFCC charge, alongside an alternative fine option of ₦1.8 million.

The Offense: Prosecutors stated that Thaoban acted as a middleman in 2023, funneling illicit funds to purchase the luxury vehicle, violating the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022.

Asset Forfeiture: In addition to the prison term, the judge ordered the permanent forfeiture of both the convict’s G-Wagon and mobile phone to the Federal Government.

In a separate proceeding, Justice Aluko also convicted four Bureau de Change (BDC) operators—Umar Muhammad Lamido, Yusuf Musa Yusuf, Abdulmuhimin Mahmud, and Muhammed Musa—for conducting unauthorized foreign exchange transactions outside the official market. Following their guilty pleas, each received a 12-month prison sentence with an option of a ₦100,000 fine.
A Delta State High Court has handed down death sentences to two individuals for their involvement in the 2018 killing of Delta State University (DELSU) undergraduate Elozino Ogege, following a ruling that found them guilty. Meanwhile, a third co-defendant facing charges related to the same incident was discharged and acquitted.
