In a statement released on Thursday, the command’s spokesperson, ASP Yazid Abubakar, expressed deep concern over the “senseless killing” of Liman, who was the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Wasagu Division in Kebbi State before his untimely death.
According to Abubakar, the incident occurred when SP Liman was en route to Birnin Kebbi to attend a meeting. He was stopped by military personnel from Operation Dadarin Daji at Danmarke area in Bukkuyum Local Government Area of Zamfara State. Despite identifying himself as a police officer, Liman was reportedly shot in the head by the leader of the military unit, identified as Hassan, resulting in his immediate death.
ASP Abubakar strongly condemned the unprovoked attack, describing it as a clear violation of the rules of engagement and the principles of inter-agency cooperation. “The circumstances surrounding this heinous crime are alarming and unacceptable,” he stated. “We demand a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding this incident.”
The police command emphasized the importance of inter-agency collaboration in maintaining peace and security, urging authorities to act swiftly to prevent such violent confrontations in the future. “The police and military must work together to maintain peace and security, not engage in violent confrontations that undermine public trust,” Abubakar added.
The command extended its deepest condolences to the family and colleagues of SP Halliru Liman, assuring them that every effort will be made to ensure justice is served in this grave matter.
