On Thursday morning, terrorists launched an assault on Mafara, the headquarters of the Talata Mafara Local Government Area in Zamfara State, kidnapping at least three individuals. A community member, who spoke with SaharaReporters, confirmed that one of the victims is his niece, Zainab.
The attack occurred around 1 AM when most residents were asleep. “I received a call about the incident this morning that the bandits attacked my hometown while my people were sleeping. They took away Zainab and two others,” the source stated, expressing deep concern for his family. He also noted that the terrorists have yet to contact the victims’ families.
In a separate incident in Matuzgi village within the same local government area, security operatives engaged in a clash with terrorists, resulting in the deaths of three residents. According to an X user identified as @Am_Saleem, approximately 25 bandits were also killed during the two-hour gunfight between the armed forces and the attackers.
He reported, “Armed bandits attacked Matuzgi village in Zamfara State’s Talata Mafara LGA. Security forces and villagers engaged in a two-hour gunfight with the attackers, killing 25 bandits, though three villagers were also killed. As the surviving bandits retreated, they were ambushed in Magamin Diddi village in Maradun LGA, resulting in an additional 10 bandit deaths, bringing the total number killed to 35.”
Efforts to obtain comments from Yezid Abubakar, the spokesperson for the state police command, were unsuccessful. Calls made to him on Thursday morning went unanswered, and messages sent via WhatsApp and SMS have yet to receive a response.
