Nigerian Immigration Service Orders Immediate Repatriation of Zimbabwean Bishop for Visa Violations....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) has announced the repatriation of Zimbabwean Bishop Eben Nhiwatiwa, citing violations of immigration laws as the reason for his deportation. This decision follows his recent detention by Nigerian authorities, despite having the necessary documentation for entry.

Reports from SaharaReporters indicate that Bishop Nhiwatiwa, of the United Methodist Church, was apprehended on August 24, 2024, in Yola, Adamawa State. The NIS confirmed that the bishop had arrived in Nigeria on August 21, 2024, with a Tourist Visa (F5A), which is strictly intended for tourism purposes. However, during his stay, he participated in the church’s leadership election process, which contravenes the terms of his visa.

In a statement released on Wednesday by the Service’s Public Relations Officer, DCI KT Udo, it was confirmed that the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, with ministerial approval, has mandated Nhiwatiwa’s immediate repatriation. The statement emphasized that while the NIS supports lawful foreign investment and social activities, it will not condone any violations of Nigeria’s immigration laws.

The statement detailed, “The Bishop arrived in the country on 21st August, 2024, with a Tourist Visa (F5A) meant solely for tourism purposes. However, he was discovered to be participating in the Methodist Church leadership election process, which is in clear violation of the terms and privileges associated with the Tourist Visa as provided in the Nigeria Visa Policy 2024.”

The NIS reiterated its commitment to maintaining national security and stated that it would continue to monitor the activities of foreigners to prevent any breaches of immigration protocols. Bishop Nhiwatiwa’s detention and subsequent repatriation have raised concerns, especially since he was in Nigeria to oversee official church business following the resignation of Bishop John Wesley Yohanna, the former bishop.

He warned against dragging the state into fresh tension, accusing the state government of attempting to revive old allegations for political advantage.

Adewara said the PDP would not remain silent while what he called “political narratives” are used to influence public perception around a tragic incident that claimed multiple lives in Offa in 2018.

He also urged residents, especially affected families, not to allow their pain to be used for political gains, insisting it is unjust to associate Saraki with the crime.

The party further alleged that the move is aimed at distracting attention from governance challenges in the state.
