Illbliss Reflects on Hip-Hop Stars Transitioning to Afrobeats: A Loss for Nigerian Rap....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Rapper Illbliss has shared his thoughts on the notable shift of music stars Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy from rap to afrobeats during a recent interview with Radio Now 95.3 FM. He highlighted that while these artists started their careers in hip-hop, their transition to afrobeats played a crucial role in their rise to international fame.

Acknowledging the challenges faced by hip-hop artists in Nigeria, Illbliss pointed out that the genre often struggles to generate substantial income. He remarked that only a handful of rappers, including himself, Vector, M.I., Reminisce, Olamide, and Phyno, have achieved significant commercial success in the industry. “Hip-hop is a tough sell in Nigeria. Not everybody has been as fortunate as myself or Vector, M.I., Reminisce, Olamide, and Phyno. It’s not a long list,” Illbliss stated.

The rapper expressed disappointment over the loss of talented artists to afrobeats, viewing it as a significant setback for the hip-hop community. “We lost a lot of our soldiers; we lost Burna Boy, Wizkid, and Davido. Three of them were rappers. I guess they found the afrobeats vibe, and it made them global stars,” he lamented.
