Hon. Justice Iyasere, the former Vice Chairman of Udu Local Government Council, has voiced his concern over the escalating insecurity in Delta State, particularly the increasing cases of kidnapping. During a recent interview in Warri, Iyasere emphasized the urgency of addressing the security challenges and expressed confidence in Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s commitment to safeguarding the lives and properties of the state’s citizens.
In his discussion, Hon. Iyasere, who is also a seasoned journalist, highlighted the heightened security measures implemented along the Ughelli Expressway near Uvwiamuge Junction. This area recently witnessed a tragic incident where some individuals were shot and killed. However, Iyasere reassured the public that the situation is now under control, stating, “I am sure the police are on top of the situation.”
Further addressing the issue, Hon. Iyasere recommended that the Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, engage local vigilantes in the fight against crime. He suggested that these community-based groups could provide valuable intelligence on the activities of hoodlums and kidnappers. “They are closer to the people and could be of great help in policing our communities,” he added.
