A New Ondo State: Emphasizing Industrialization for True Security....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Kunle ‘Wizeman’ Ajayi, the African Action Congress (AAC) governorship candidate in Ondo State, has called for a transformation in the state focused on industrialization and welfarism to guarantee the security of lives and property. His remarks come in response to the Ondo State House of Assembly’s recent call for the government to enhance the Amotekun Corps, a security network aimed at combating rising criminal activities.

During a session on Thursday, Speaker Chief Olamide Oladiji urged the state government to provide adequate logistics and funding for Amotekun to improve safety measures in the region. This discussion was prompted by the tragic killings of two farmers in Akoko, attributed to suspected herdsmen.

Ajayi criticized the notion that merely strengthening Amotekun will address the deep-rooted issues plaguing security in Ondo State. He argued that security is not solely about militarization, stating, “Security is not about arms or militarization.” Instead, he emphasized the need for all citizens to unite against bad governance.

Highlighting the state’s potential, Ajayi pointed to its rich agricultural, mineral, and human resources. He expressed disappointment at the current government’s failure to utilize these assets for the benefit of the people. “How can you think strengthening Amotekun will stop crimes in a state where a governor has received close to a trillion naira in a year with no tangible project to show for it?” he questioned.

With the current economic struggles, including skyrocketing prices for essential goods like petrol and kerosene, Ajayi stressed that security forces cannot effectively protect citizens who are economically insecure. “Even if you employ one million more Amotekun operatives and give them all AK-47 rifles; how will they secure people that are not economically secured?” he asked.

Ajayi lamented the decline of job opportunities in Ondo State, recalling the successful industries established by earlier leaders, such as Ifon Ceramic and Oluwa Glass Company. He asserted that the current administration has failed to create new opportunities, preferring to engage in political appointments and celebrations instead.

Addressing the broader challenges faced by the populace, he pointed out that many members of the ruling party are also struggling. He noted the widespread hardship across Akure, stating, “One does not need a soothsayer to tell that we are all sitting on a time bomb.”

Through his campaign, Ajayi has urged the people of Ondo State and Nigeria to unite against poor governance. He referenced the protests he led on August 10 in Akure, calling for collective action against the current administration. “This is why I personally led the August 10th protests in Akure,” he stated, emphasizing the need for citizens to demand accountability.

The AAC’s manifesto outlines a commitment to serious governance focused on industrialization. Ajayi believes that electing visionary leaders who prioritize the welfare of the people will foster a safer, more prosperous Ondo State.

Human rights lawyer Frank Tietie has criticized the nomination and subsequent confirmation of Professor Abayomi Fasina, the former Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, as a non-career ambassador designate.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

  • Prior to his confirmation, a coalition of civil society organizations protested at the National Assembly on July 7, 2026, opposing Fasina’s nomination due to pending court cases involving allegations of sexual harassment, human rights violations, and victimization.

  • Despite these protests, the Nigerian Senate officially confirmed Fasina’s appointment as a non-career ambassador on Thursday.

Frank Tietie’s Position

  • During an interview on ARISE Television, Tietie argued that nominating an individual with such “baggage” was a mistake, emphasizing that ambassadors represent Nigeria in the same capacity as the President.

  • Tietie stated that the government should have sent the “right signals” by avoiding such controversial appointments, especially given the current state of governance.

  • He argued that even in the absence of a final court judgment, the allegations themselves have “tainted” Fasina’s reputation, and the Senate should have delayed the confirmation until the legal matters were resolved.

  • Tietie also suggested that the National Assembly’s decision overlooks significant social changes regarding how such allegations are now viewed by society.
