Wike Dismisses Clark’s Call for Investigation: A Showdown in the PDP ....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, recently addressed the media, firmly rejecting calls from Chief Edwin Clark, leader of the Southern and Middle Belt Forum, for him to be investigated and expelled from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). This response came during a media event marking Wike’s first year in office as the FCT Minister.

In a letter directed to the National Chairman of the PDP, Umar Damagum, Clark urged the establishment of a probe committee to investigate Wike. He emphasized that any findings of wrongdoing should lead to appropriate sanctions in line with the party’s constitution.

Wike’s Response

Wike responded with strong sentiments, asserting that he does not recognize Clark as a valid member of the PDP. He highlighted that Clark had previously opposed his ambition to become Governor in 2014, a campaign Wike ultimately won despite the resistance. Wike defended his contributions to the party’s progress, claiming that few have matched his dedication.

During the media briefing, Wike elaborated on his history with Clark. He recalled Clark’s opposition to his gubernatorial aspirations, stating, “In 2014, when I came out to run, Edwin Clark said it was the turn of the Ijaws and that nothing would make me the Governor. I said, ‘Well, it is my right to run, and if I fail, I will come back.’ But to the glory of God, I ran and I won.”

Contributions to the PDP

Wike expressed frustration over Clark’s call for investigation, questioning the rationale behind it. He noted that he had supported Clark’s call for a Southern presidency, aligning with the sentiment that power should rotate to the South. “There is nothing Chief Edwin Clark has not said, but I will never reply to anything,” he stated, emphasizing his commitment to the party and its values.

Wike’s remarks shed light on the internal dynamics within the PDP, showcasing the tension between established party leaders and newer figures. His strong stance illustrates his determination to maintain his position and influence within the party, regardless of external pressures.

The arrests came after a group of officers, calling themselves the Military Committee for Refoundation, appeared on national television on Sunday morning, claiming to have removed President Patrice Talon and dissolved all state institutions. The officers asserted that they had seized control of the government.

The presidency, however, confirmed that President Talon is safe and that loyalist forces are restoring order. Authorities described the coup attempt as the work of “a small group” with limited reach, adding that the city and the country remain secure.

Regional bloc ECOWAS has condemned the attempted takeover, describing it as a serious and unacceptable challenge to the democratic will of the people. In a statement issued in Abuja, the Commission called for strict adherence to the country’s Constitution and praised the efforts of the government and the Republican Army in regaining control. ECOWAS warned that the plot’s leaders would be held accountable for any loss of life or property arising from their actions and reaffirmed its full support for Benin, including potential deployment of the regional standby force if necessary.

Speaking during an Space discussion titled “APC Must Go,” Olarenwaju explained that his alignment with Atiku was motivated by a broader vision for Nigeria’s progress. He said, “Most of the answers I’m going to give tonight are not just based on my deliberations with Atiku, they are based on my desire for a better Nigeria. At the end of the day, if Nigeria is better, my life is better and easier as a Nigerian. So I only find myself with Atiku; in 2015, I didn’t find myself with Atiku, I found myself on the side of Goodluck Jonathan.”
