Gas Tanker Overturns on Oshodi-Apapa Expressway, Prompt Action Averts Disaster
A potentially catastrophic incident was narrowly avoided on Wednesday when a gas tanker overturned along the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway, leaving the driver injured. The accident occurred near Anthony Oke, as the tanker headed towards Gbagada. Swift Response Prevents Tragedy
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) swiftly responded to the scene, working in conjunction with the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Services to prevent what could have been a disastrous situation. According to Adebayo Taofiq, the spokesperson for LASTMA, the immediate and coordinated efforts of emergency responders were critical in containing the incident.
“The tanker driver, who sustained injuries to his hand, was successfully rescued from the scene by LASTMA personnel and is currently receiving medical treatment,” Taofiq said. He further explained that the presence of the Lagos State Fire Service, the LASEMA Response Unit (LRU), and other emergency responders ensured that safety measures were quickly implemented, mitigating any potential hazards.
Restoring Normalcy
Olalekan Bakare-Oki, the General Manager of LASTMA, was present at the scene and emphasized the agency’s commitment to ensuring the safety of road users in Lagos State. “LASTMA personnel, with the support of the LRU, have successfully evacuated the tanker and its loaded gas cylinder from the road, restoring vehicular movement towards Gbagada, Iyana-Oworo, Car Wash, Ifako, and Toll Gate,” Bakare-Oki stated.
He also expressed gratitude for the cooperation of all parties involved in the swift response, reinforcing LASTMA’s ongoing efforts to prioritize the safety and well-being of Lagosians.
