The rescue mission, led by a combined team of police, military, and vigilante groups, was initiated in response to the kidnapping incident that occurred in the Ihiala local government area last weekend. Police spokesperson Tochukwu Ikenga revealed that the operation was fueled by the confession of a suspect arrested weeks earlier. This suspect, whose name has been withheld, is believed to be part of a notorious kidnapping gang terrorizing the state, particularly in Ihiala.
“In an ongoing operation in Ihiala, a combined team of Police, Military, and AVG operatives busted a criminal den at Umuduru, Ihiala, and rescued a kidnap victim unhurt,” Ikenga stated. He confirmed that the rescued victim has been debriefed and reunited with their family, while the operation continues as security forces work to bring the rest of the gang to justice.
This successful rescue comes amid rising tensions in Anambra State, which has seen a surge in kidnapping incidents over the past three months.
