Kingibe Slams Security Forces For Excessive Force: ‘Government Must Address The Real Issues Behind Protests!Senator Ireti Kingibe, representing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, has called on the federal government to respond to the demands and concerns raised by Nigerians during the recent 10-day #EndBadGovernance protests.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Beginning on August 1, these nationwide protests were driven by widespread dissatisfaction with governance and escalating hardships, leading to multiple fatalities and injuries.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Kingibe emphasized the need for constructive dialogue between the government, protest leaders, civil society groups, and other key stakeholders to address these pressing issues.

She condemned the excessive force used by security forces against peaceful protesters, stating, “I offer my deepest condolences to those who have lost loved ones in these demonstrations. My thoughts are with the bereaved families and those recovering from injuries. The loss and suffering are deeply troubling, and it is vital we confront these harsh realities.”

Kingibe also expressed her dismay at the aggressive tactics employed by the police and other security agencies, noting that such measures hinder progress and fail to address the root causes of the protests.

She stressed that the federal government should adopt a more empathetic approach, focusing on dialogue to address critical issues such as corruption in the fuel subsidy system and calls for better leadership. Kingibe highlighted that these demands reflect a broader frustration shared by many Nigerians, including herself.

“The government must engage in meaningful conversations with protest representatives, civil society, and other relevant groups to resolve these concerns,” she added. “We must remember that our role as public servants is to listen to and act on the people’s concerns. Their voices are crucial and deserve our full attention.”

Kingibe assured residents of the Federal Capital Territory that she will continue to advocate for their needs in the Senate and praised their peaceful conduct during the protests. “Together, let us strive for solutions that address these issues and foster the positive change we all desire,” she concluded.

Contrary to Adeyemi’s claims that this sum was a facilitation fee to secure a government appointment through Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, police found no evidence of such a transaction. Instead, forensic analysis confirmed forgery of appointment letters and other official documents, with financial records showing the funds were spent on luxury items, vehicles, and relatives. Further compounding his financial situation, Adeyemi allegedly secured an additional ₦100 million loan to maintain his high-end lifestyle.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The investigation also uncovered severe lapses in due diligence across several government bodies, which allowed the fraudulent council to gain official recognition. Five senior public officials—including directors in the offices of the Accountant-General and Head of Service, and staff from the Budget Office and Ministry of Budget—have been identified as having facilitated Adeyemi’s access to government processes. The NPF has recommended the prosecution of these officials, subject to legal counsel, alongside the interrogation of 22 other individuals connected to the case. The findings have been forwarded to the Attorney-General of the Federation and other relevant security and government agencies.
