According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Buhari Abdullahi, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Hayatu Usman, the protesters were also accused of displaying unauthorized foreign flags during the demonstrations, an act considered treasonous under Nigerian law.

The escalating violence resulted in serious injuries to police officers and significant damage to police vehicles. Nine of the arrested individuals were specifically charged with direct involvement in the assaults on officers and looting activities during the protests.

Notable instances of vandalism were reported at key locations, including the Gombe State Revenue Recovery Tribunal, Bima Lodge, Gombe State Bureau of Public Service Reform, NITEL Company, and Blue-J Motors.

In addition to the nine charged with assault and looting, another 92 individuals were detained for acts of vandalism and theft. The police have successfully recovered some of the stolen items, though details of the recoveries were not disclosed.

On August 5, 2024, ten more individuals were arrested for displaying foreign flags during the protests, which the police described as a sign of disrespect towards national symbols.

The police command emphasized its commitment to restoring peace, protecting lives and property, and upholding the rights of lawful protesters while taking firm action against illegal activities. CP Usman also expressed gratitude for the support of other security agencies and local communities in recovering looted assets and restoring order in the state.

The command urged residents to remain calm and encouraged them to report any missing property to the police headquarters for verification and potential recovery.
