Shame Engulfs Obaseki As Edolites Expose Diversion Of FG Rice Palliatives: How Akpata Would Have Done It Right....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Written By Oshiobugie John

In recent hours, amid a nationwide protest trending across various social media platforms, a sub-trend has emerged: the diversion of thousands of bags of rice by the current administration in Edo State, led by Governor Godwin Obaseki.

Numerous videos from various locations have flooded the internet, showing protesting Edolites discovering bags of rice that were allocated to Edo State by the Federal Government of Nigeria under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. It is worth noting that President Tinubu has on multiple occasions distributed thousands of bags of rice to each state to mitigate hunger and inflation caused by his harsh policies, which have yet to bear fruit. Edo State has received its share on several occasions, yet Edolites remain in the dark about how these bags are/were distributed—“are” because the Federal Government recently distributed more rice at the end of July.

As it stands, Obaseki has not only been accused of diverting twenty truckloads of rice meant for the impoverished Edolites but has also been confirmed to have engaged in such deceitful and disgusting activities at a time when Edolites are starvin and angry. It is also important to note that the limited rice he did distribute was used for political gain, rebranded and shared under the guise of the Edo State Feeding Program and other misleading names, benefiting his party’s candidate and his ally, Asue Ighodalo.

This is not the first time such accusations have surfaced. A quick look back to 2020 will remind anyone familiar with Edo State politics that Governor Obaseki faced similar accusations of diverting rice distributed by the then-First Lady Aisha Buhari during the coronavirus crisis, and it was confirmed he did it.

I urge the genuine people of Edo State, known for their intolerance of injustice, to rise up and voice their discontent by voting against Godwin Obaseki’s anointed candidate, Asue Ighodalo. They are birds of the same feather; the latter would merely continue where his godfather Obaseki left off.

How Olumide Osaigbovo Akpata Would Have Ensured Fair Distribution of FG Palliatives to All Edolites

If Olumide Osaigbovo Akpata were governor of Edo State, he would implement a more transparent and inclusive approach to distributing federal palliatives. Akpata would ensure that every local government area and ward received a fair share by setting up a decentralized distribution system with local committees. This approach would aim to prevent any potential diversion of resources and ensure that aid reached all intended beneficiaries across the state.

Furthermore, Akpata would establish a monitoring and feedback mechanism to track the distribution process and address any issues promptly. By involving community leaders and civil society organizations in overseeing the distribution, he would enhance accountability and ensure that the palliatives effectively alleviated the hardships faced by Edolites.

Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Policy Communications, has suggested that some Nigerians staying in the country may be in a better financial situation than those who have relocated abroad. Speaking on The Morayo Show, Bwala highlighted the difficulties faced by migrants in countries like the United Kingdom:....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

    • Many Nigerians who left with hopes for better opportunities are currently struggling, despite holding university degrees and earning in foreign currencies.

    • Due to labour market realities, many graduates abroad are working in roles outside their fields of study, such as in warehouses or care facilities.

    • Although migrants may earn thousands of pounds monthly, a significant portion of their income is consumed by essential costs like rent, bills, food, and transportation.

    • Because their earnings are often insufficient to cover these living expenses, many are forced to work multiple jobs just to survive.

    • Bwala noted that the pressure of living abroad often leaves migrants with little disposable income and no safety net, whereas those earning lower incomes in Nigeria can often rely on support from friends and family.

    • Bwala described this experience for many as “modern-day slavery,” arguing that those in Nigeria who believe they are suffering are often better off than those who left five years ago.
