Army Clears Air On Viral Video: Soldiers Thwart Attack, Recover Looted GoodsThe Nigerian Army has refuted claims made in a viral video suggesting that troops participated in the looting spree that occurred on Thursday, the first day of the hunger protest in Kano.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In a statement, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, Director of Army Public Relations, clarified that soldiers from the 3 Brigade of the Nigerian Army responded to a distress call following an attack by hoodlums on Barakat Stores in Kano Metropolis. The timely intervention of the soldiers thwarted the hoodlums’ efforts.

The statement explained that the troops intercepted some of the hoodlums and recovered stolen items. While transporting these items back to the store, they received another urgent distress call about a planned attack on the Kano State Government House.

“Given the urgency of the imminent attack, the troops immediately diverted to protect the Government House from the hoodlums,” the statement noted.

It was during their response to this second distress call that the video was recorded. The fluid and urgent situation explains why the troops in the video seemed unperturbed when some hoodlums stole from their truck while it was in motion. At that point, preventing the attack on the Government House took precedence.

The statement further detailed that the troops eventually returned the recovered items, including gallons of cooking oil, to Barakat Stores, where they were handed over to the rightful owner. The management of Barakat Stores acknowledged and appreciated the troops’ efforts and their professionalism in a letter conveyed by the organization’s General Manager.
