Okonkwo’s statement reflects his frustration with the Labour Party and his decision to embark on a new political path, criticizing Obi for not using the opportunity to solidify the party’s integrity.
In response, the Labour Party, through its National Publicity Secretary Obiorah Ifoh, acknowledged the presence of moles within the party, pledging to expose and address them.
On Monday, Tanko addressed the situation, revealing that Peter Obi was disheartened by Okonkwo’s departure. Obi views Okonkwo as a younger brother who has contributed significantly to the party’s cause.
Tanko explained, “After Kenneth Okonkwo announced his departure from both the Labour Party and the Obidients, I reached out to Obi for his reaction. Obi expressed his disappointment because he regards Okonkwo as a dedicated supporter who played a vital role during our campaign.”
“Obi firmly believes that Okonkwo should not be labeled a mole, given his contributions to our movement for a new Nigeria,” Tanko continued. “When I asked Obi if I could share his perspective publicly, he agreed, emphasizing that the disagreement with Okonkwo is a matter of differing approaches rather than personal conflict.

The 24-year-old Ecuadorian midfielder agreed improved terms following Chelsea’s recent successes in the UEFA Europa Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup.
He had initially signed an eight-year deal when he joined from Brighton & Hove Albion in 2023 for a British-record fee of around £100m, which could rise to £115m, before being surpassed by Liverpool’s £125m move for Alexander Isak.
Caicedo expressed delight over the extension, saying: “I am so happy to have extended my contract at Chelsea. I believe in this team, this club and I know we’re going in the right direction. We’ve only just begun together.
“There is still a lot more to achieve, and I’m very hungry to keep improving every day. I want to win more trophies with Chelsea and give everything for this club and for the fans.
“My dream is to become a Chelsea legend, and I will work as hard as possible to make that happen.”
reports that the deal is part of Chelsea’s broader effort to secure key players on long-term contracts, with captain Reece James also signing new terms and Cole Palmer receiving a performance-based pay rise.
Under former coach Enzo Maresca, Caicedo featured in every Premier League match last season, and this campaign he has already made 42 appearances, scoring five goals from midfield.
Contract negotiations are also ongoing with Enzo Fernández and Levi Colwill, while Fernández recently returned from an internal suspension amid speculation linking him with Real Madrid.
Chelsea’s next fixture is against Manchester United at Stamford Bridge on Saturday as they continue their push for Champions League qualification.
