Okonkwo announced his decision on Sunday, criticizing Obi’s leadership abilities and claiming he lacked the capacity to lead the party effectively.

The LP’s statement also revealed that the party is aware of certain individuals acting as moles within its ranks, and these will be exposed and removed. The party reaffirmed its support for Peter Obi and its commitment to him as the candidate for the 2027 elections.

The statement noted: “Recently, a former Director General of our presidential campaign resigned to rejoin the APC, followed by a former Deputy Director General. Now, Okonkwo, a former APC member who infiltrated our campaign, has also moved on.

“Nigeria does not need political opportunists whose primary concern is personal gain. The Labour Party is not unsettled by his departure and wishes him well in his future endeavors, whether in acting, law, or politics.

“We are aware of other moles attempting to instigate crisis and hijack the party for their own purposes. We urge these individuals to reconsider their actions before being exposed and removed.

“The Labour Party remains steadfast in supporting Peter Obi as our leader and presidential candidate for 2027. Coordinated attacks will not diminish the faith that Nigerians, especially the Obidients and youth, have in him. With his leadership, we believe a new Nigeria is achievable. Nigerians made their voices heard in 2023, and they will do so even louder in 2027.”
