Kwara: Police And Vigilantes Thwart Kidnap Attempt In IlorinIn a successful operation, the Kwara State Police Command, working alongside the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), thwarted a kidnapping attempt early Wednesday morning in Ilorin, the state capital.

According to DSP Ejire Adeyemi Toun, the police spokesperson, the incident occurred around 01:30 hrs. Authorities received a distress call from the Oluwalose community in Ilorin-West Local Government Area, located along the Okolowo-Jebba Highway, reporting an invasion by armed assailants.

“Our brave patrol team from Oloje Police Division, in conjunction with VGN members, responded immediately,” Toun stated. “Upon arrival, we found that nine heavily armed individuals, carrying AK-47 rifles and Dane guns, had entered the camp of Alfa Bukhari Jamiu Tunde.”

The attackers aimed to kidnap guests at the prayer camp but were thwarted by the quick intervention of the patrol team and VGN. Fortunately, no one was abducted.

However, a man and his wife, who had traveled from Lagos to attend the event, sustained injuries inflicted by the assailants. They were quickly taken to the hospital, treated, and discharged.

The Kwara State police command has deployed additional patrol teams to search for the attackers, and an investigation into the incident is underway. The situation in Solati village is under control, and ongoing monitoring aims to ensure the safety of residents.

Commissioner of Police Victor Olaiya praised the courage and swift response of the patrol team and VGN members, noting that their actions prevented a potential tragedy.

The police command remains dedicated to protecting residents and urges the public to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities to local authorities.
