According to the motion, one of these meetings should include elected officials such as senators, House of Representatives members, and state lawmakers, while another should involve traditional rulers, religious leaders, market heads, and transportation sector representatives.

Speaker Mudashiru Obasa emphasized the importance of proactive measures to alleviate tensions and ensure public safety. He noted that Lagos is still dealing with the aftermath of the EndSARS protests and appealed to the youths to exercise patience with President Bola Tinubu’s administration, which is striving to improve conditions for citizens.

Obasa also drew parallels with ongoing crises in Kenya, Sudan, and Syria, which began similarly. He praised Lagos Commissioner of Police Adegoke Fayoade for engaging with community leaders about the protest and called for a meeting with all relevant local leaders to discuss strategies to deter the protest.

During the session, Hon. Adams (Eti-Osa 1) appealed to the public to reconsider the protest, highlighting President Tinubu’s willingness to address citizen concerns, including the recent increase in the minimum wage from N30,000 to N70,000.

Hon. Kehinde Joseph expressed concerns about the lack of clear leadership among the protesters and urged patience, stressing that the country’s issues affect everyone. Hon. Sa’ad Olumoh affirmed President Tinubu’s understanding of Nigeria’s problems and the progress made in federal allocations to states under his administration.

Other lawmakers also called on parents to discourage their children from participating in the protest or engaging in criminal activities.
