Hon Francis Waive Raises Concern Over Neglect Of Federal Character In Tertiary Institutions’ Governing CouncilsThe House of Representatives member representing Ughelli North, Ughelli South, and Udu federal constituency, Hon Francis Waive, has raised concerns regarding the neglect of the constitutional requirement of federal character in the composition of Governing Councils of tertiary institutions in Nigeria.

Expressing his dismay, Waive highlighted that Delta State received only four out of the 560 positions available from among the 36 states. He emphasized that his constituency and the Delta central senatorial district were entirely excluded.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In a letter dated June 15, 2024, addressed to the Honorable Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, titled “Complaint On Gross Marginalization Of Delta State In Composition Of Councils Of Tertiary Institutions,” Waive decried the gross marginalization of Delta State.

Waive, who serves as the Chairman of the House Committee on Rules and Business, emphasized the need for rectification of this anomaly to ensure a sense of belonging for his constituents and the senatorial district.

The letter stated, “The constitutional requirement of federal character was completely ignored as Delta State got only four out of the 560 positions from among the 36 states.”

He further urged the Minister to intervene promptly to address this injustice and restore a sense of inclusion for the people of Delta State.
