Niger State Residents Outraged As Governor, Deputy, Speaker, And State EXCO Members Travel To Saudi For HajjThe decision of Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, along with Deputy Governor Comrade Yakubu Garba, and Speaker of the House of Assembly Abdulmalik Sarkin-Daji, to embark on the Hajj pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia has sparked widespread outrage among residents of the state.

Residents have criticized the governor for what they perceive as a lack of seriousness towards governance, accusing him of abandoning his responsibilities alongside his deputy, thereby leaving the people vulnerable in the face of escalating security threats.

Opposition parties in the state have voiced their dissatisfaction, highlighting the paralysis of government activities in the absence of key officials.

Alhaji Umar Danladi Abdulhamid of the Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) condemned the administration’s actions, stressing the disregard for citizen welfare and the failure to adhere to constitutional protocols.

Similarly, Alhaji Yahaya Ability, Niger North Zonal Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), criticized the ruling APC for its alleged violation of laws under Governor Bago’s leadership. He expressed dismay at the governor’s departure amid ongoing security crises in the state, emphasizing the need for accountability and adherence to constitutional provisions.

Efforts to obtain a response from the state government regarding these concerns were unsuccessful, with key officials declining to comment.

Currently, the state appears to be managed by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) and the Chief of Staff (CoS) to the Governor, as the governor and other top officials are away.

However, a government source, speaking anonymously, suggested that the governor can effectively oversee state affairs remotely with the aid of modern technology.
