However, the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, faced challenges from senators who raised concerns about various issues during the deliberation.

Senator Solomon Adeola Olamilekan expressed reservations about the report, questioning why the budget performance for 2023 was not adequately assessed before approving the 2024 budget, which is a legislative tradition.

Reacting similarly, Senator Adamu Aliero raised concerns about NDDC’s proposal to borrow N1 trillion, which he believed was not included in the borrowing plan. He stressed the necessity for NDDC to utilize the allocated funds effectively for the benefit of the people.

Senator Adams Oshiomhole acknowledged changes in NDDC and suggested that the agency could apply for borrowing after the budget’s passage. He urged lawmakers not to judge NDDC based on its past, citing a forensic audit conducted at the behest of South-South governors.

Senator Seriake Dickson called for support for NDDC, emphasizing the need to move past the forensic audit.

Following the discussions, Senate President Godswill Akpabio called for a vote, leading to the passage of the budget into law.
