Speaking at the Second Session of the Twelfth Synod of the Diocese of Abuja, Archbishop Ndukuba highlighted the escalating hardship, starvation, and economic adversities experienced by ordinary Nigerian families. He emphasized the urgent need for leaders to take decisive action to address these pressing challenges.
While acknowledging President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s efforts in addressing the nation’s issues, Archbishop Ndukuba stressed the importance of accountability in leadership, stating that leadership should be perceived as a sacred trust from God and an opportunity to serve both God and humanity.
He lamented the multifaceted problems facing the nation, including corruption, insecurity, and economic difficulties, which have led to a situation where holders of offices prioritize personal interests over the greater good.
Calling for the establishment of a state or regional police force to combat insecurity, Archbishop Ndukuba highlighted the urgent need to address the deteriorating security situation in various regions of the country.
Regarding the economy, he noted that Nigeria is experiencing severe economic challenges, with citizens feeling the impact daily. Archbishop Ndukuba commended efforts to stabilize the exchange rate but highlighted issues such as high debt levels, reckless borrowing, and corruption contributing to adverse economic conditions.
He expressed support for digitization policies aimed at improving employment and economic development and urged citizens to engage in farming and food production to enhance food security.
Meanwhile, Catholic Archbishop Alfred Adewale Martins urged the federal government to implement policies centered on the masses to address the economic challenges facing the country. He emphasized the need for policies to be reviewed to ensure they consider the present-day lives of citizens and alleviate adverse effects on the populace.

While economic experts like Aliyu Ilias and Dr. Muda Yusuf cautioned against the rapid accumulation of debt and its inflationary risks, the Presidency and Finance Minister Taiwo Oyedele defended the borrowings.
