NPFL Plans To Enforce New Minimum Wage For FootballersThe Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) is considering a revision of the minimum wage for players in response to the prevailing economic challenges in the country. Reports indicate that the current minimum wage for NPFL players stands at N150,000, with variations depending on club status and player profile.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

However, NPFL Chairman, Gbenga Elegbeleye, has highlighted the need for an upward adjustment of this benchmark due to the economic hardships facing professional footballers in Nigeria. He emphasized that the existing minimum wage, though set at N150,000, may not adequately address the financial needs of players, especially given the rising cost of living.

Elegbeleye underscored the importance of ensuring fair compensation for players, noting that some clubs may be paying below the minimum wage, thereby underscoring the urgency for a review. He mentioned plans to enhance transparency in player payments by mandating salary disbursements through bank accounts, a move aimed at promoting accountability and fair treatment within the league.

The proposed adjustment reflects the NPFL’s commitment to supporting the welfare and livelihoods of footballers amidst economic uncertainties. By acknowledging the financial realities faced by players and taking steps to address them, the NPFL demonstrates its dedication to fostering a conducive environment for professional football in Nigeria.

‘Nigerians Must Feel Relief’ – Kwankwaso Vows Action To Reduce Fuel Prices.

The vice-presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Rabiu Kwankwaso, has said the party would consider lowering petrol prices and potentially reinstating fuel subsidies if it wins the 2027 presidential election.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Kwankwaso made this known on Thursday during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, where he described the cost of energy in Nigeria as excessively high and stressed the need to make it more affordable for citizens.

The former Kano State governor said the NDC was willing to explore all possible measures, including fuel subsidies, to bring down the price of petrol.

He stated, “We are on the same page now with His Excellency Peter Obi. Our collective position now is that the price of energy in this country is too high; we are going to do whatever is necessary to ensure that the price of fuel in this country is taken back, including doing whatever we can, including the subsidy.”

Kwankwaso also argued that voters would ultimately assess political parties and candidates based on their records in office rather than the promises they make during election campaigns.

According to him, first-time candidates may outline their plans to the electorate, but those seeking another opportunity in office would be judged by what they accomplished during their previous tenure.

He added, “If you are coming for the first time, you can tell people what you intend to do, but after four years, it’s not what you say, it’s what you have done during the opportunity that you had that will work for you or against you.”

‘Peter Obi’s Figures Are Correct’ – Kwankwaso Challenges Shettima’s Statistics Claim.

The vice-presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Rabiu Kwankwaso, has faulted Vice-President Kashim Shettima’s description of the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, as “the master of bogus statistics and incoherent economic prescriptions.”....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Shettima made the remark on Wednesday during the inauguration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council in Abuja. He accused Obi of relying heavily on foreign economic models without adequately considering Nigeria’s unique circumstances and challenges.

Although the Vice-President described Obi as his “very good friend,” he questioned the former Anambra State governor’s frequent comparisons between Nigeria and countries such as Bangladesh.

However, speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday, Kwankwaso defended Obi, insisting that the presidential candidate’s figures were largely accurate because he takes time to verify them.

Kwankwaso acknowledged that people could occasionally make mistakes or misspeak, but maintained that Shettima’s criticism of Obi was unjustified.

He said, “I always listen to him (Peter Obi), like all others, I take time to check the statistics. As far as I am concerned, most of the figures he was saying were correct and the only thing, of course as human beings you are bound to make mistakes or a slip of tongue as they call it.

“But for Shettima to come and make that statement, I don’t think he is correct. So, I am happy that our presidential candidate is somebody who is conversant with statistics, not only in this country but all over the world, in Europe, Asia, everywhere and I think that is a good one.”

The vice-presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Rabiu Kwankwaso, has revealed that he urged a delegation of Fulani people who visited him to persuade the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, to withdraw from the 2027 presidential race.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Kwankwaso disclosed this on Thursday during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today programme.

He explained that the delegation had visited his residence for a courtesy call, adding that he used the opportunity to encourage its members to speak with Atiku about stepping down from the presidential contest.

According to him, the visitors came from different parts of the country, and he urged them to make the appeal before returning to their respective communities.

“I met with a group of Fulani people from across the country who came for a courtesy visit to my house, and I felt it was an opportunity for me to talk to them,” Kwankwaso said.

“I asked them to create time before going back to their towns and villages to talk to Atiku to withdraw from the 2027 presidential election,” he added.

Reflecting on his relationship with Atiku and their previous political engagements, the former Kano State governor said he had worked closely with the former vice-president in the past.

“Atiku is somebody that I know fairly well, and I have done so much together with him in the past, more than anybody who is around him today,” Kwankwaso stated.

Meanwhile, former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal, has claimed that Kwankwaso had reservations about joining the ADC.

Speaking on Arise Television’s Prime Time, Lawal said he persuaded both Peter Obi, the NDC presidential candidate, and Kwankwaso to consider joining the ADC.

According to Lawal, Kwankwaso was concerned that Atiku’s presence in the party could undermine its prospects, as he reportedly feared that the party would struggle to make progress with the former vice-president in its ranks.
