According to SP Wasiu Abiodun, the spokesperson for the command, the suspects, including the 10-year-old boy, were apprehended based on credible intelligence. Their alleged involvement in a burglary at a residence within the Kutirko-Fadikpe area of Minna, where mobile phones, including iPhones and Redmi note phones, were stolen, came to light during preliminary investigations.

The suspects, identified as Abdullahi Muhammed (25), Zakari Ahmad (10), Aminu Ismail (16), Mukhtar Abdullahi (18), Sule Attahiru (25), and Shamsudeen Sabiu (20), reportedly confessed to their involvement in the crime. They admitted to not only snatching phones but also engaging in other robbery activities, selling the stolen phones to accomplices in different areas.

In a separate incident, Aliyu Usman (25) from Badeggi town, Katcha, was arrested for possession of a victim’s android phone. Suspicions arose when he was found attempting to format and unlock the handset. Usman’s failure to provide a satisfactory account of how he obtained the phone raised concerns that he might have been involved in its theft, possibly using a cutlass as a weapon.

All the suspects are currently under investigation, highlighting the urgency and gravity of addressing juvenile delinquency and criminal behavior among young people. The arrests underscore the need for comprehensive strategies aimed at preventing youth involvement in criminal activities and providing avenues for rehabilitation and reintegration into society.

As the investigation progresses, authorities are likely to uncover further insights into the root causes of juvenile crime in the region, paving the way for targeted interventions and community-based initiatives aimed at safeguarding vulnerable youth and fostering a safer environment for all residents of Niger State.
