In a statement issued on Sunday, the Lagos Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, clarified that some of those relocated were miscreants apprehended in the state. These individuals reportedly pleaded for assistance to return to their home state due to their current circumstances.
According to Omotosho, a total of 450 miscreants were rescued during the operation, with 371 requesting relocation to their respective states owing to the challenges they faced in Lagos. Additionally, 79 individuals were absorbed into government facilities for rehabilitation, particularly due to their medical conditions.
The ongoing operation, as explained by the commissioner, is part of the government’s efforts to address the security risks posed by the influx of miscreants, beggars, and destitute individuals in various parts of Lagos State.
Emphasizing the need to ensure the safety and security of residents, Omotoso reiterated the government’s commitment to safeguarding the welfare of all citizens while maintaining law and order.
As the government continues its initiatives to enhance security and address social challenges, collaboration with other states and stakeholders remains vital to effectively manage migration and mitigate potential risks to public safety and well-being.

Mrs. Rachel Alamu, Principal of Esinle Community High School, has shared a harrowing account of her 56-day captivity after being kidnapped alongside teachers and pupils in Oriire Local Government Area. According to Alamu, the military offensive became so severe that the captives momentarily feared the air strikes more than their abductors. This intense military activity also enraged the kidnappers, who had previously raised hopes among the hostages by claiming Governor Seyi Makinde had given assurances of their release before the end of the week.
Tensions peaked when a gang commander summoned Alamu, blaming the government’s actions for frustrating the group and threatening to kill a captive. In a desperate plea, Alamu begged the commander not to harm anyone else, reminding him of the two men from their group who had already been killed. The commander eventually calmed down and asked Alamu how the stalemate could be resolved, prompting her to urge him to make demands that the victims’ families could realistically meet.
The captives faced another terrifying moment when they heard sounds of digging at night, fearing the abductors were preparing graves. However, the situation shifted unexpectedly when the gang ordered them to move camp, threatening to kill the children if they cried out for food. Throughout the ordeal, Alamu’s concerns extended beyond her own safety to the health of her husband and the possibility of not finding him at home. She expressed profound gratitude to God for surviving the 56 days and reuniting with her family.
To help public servants collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the upcoming governorship election, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has declared Tuesday, July 28, 2026, a work-free day. While workers are strongly urged to utilize this window to pick up their cards rather than delay, essential service providers—such as medical personnel and security operatives—are exempt. These essential workers are instead expected to coordinate internal arrangements so that eligible staff can still secure their PVCs without causing disruptions to critical operations. Furthermore, Governor Adeleke encouraged private and informal sector workers to collect their cards as well, emphasizing that possessing a voter’s card is an essential license to participate in the democratic process and exercise their civic power.
