Samuel Ortom, the former governor of Benue State, has offered counsel to his counterpart in Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, urging him to confront the allegations against him by surrendering to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).Bello, who has been declared wanted by the anti-graft agency over alleged money laundering, is facing prosecution for purportedly misappropriating over N80 billion during his tenure as governor of Kogi State.
Ortom shared his advice during a thanksgiving service organized by his former appointees to commemorate his 63rd birthday at the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Regional Headquarters in Makurdi.
In his statement, Ortom emphasized the importance of accountability and urged Bello not to tarnish the reputation of former governors. He encouraged Bello to cooperate with the EFCC, stressing that compliance with legal processes is essential. Ortom attempted to reach out to Bello directly but was unsuccessful, prompting him to convey the message publicly.
Ortom’s message underscores the significance of upholding integrity and facing legal scrutiny with dignity, regardless of one’s status or position.
