In a daring attack on Wednesday night, bandits launched a violent assault on the palace of the Emir of Zurmi, Bello Muhammad Bunu, in Zamfara State. The brazen raid resulted in three fatalities and multiple abductions, causing panic and unrest in the community.

According to reports from DailyTrust, the assailants targeted high-profile residences, including that of Colonel Bala Muhammad Mande (rtd), former Military Administrator of Nasarawa State. Although the Emir escaped unharmed, the attackers inflicted significant damage, including the destruction of a GSM communication mast and burning of generators, disrupting communication and power supply in the area.

Eyewitnesses recounted the chaos as residents fled into the bush for safety amidst gunfire. The magnitude of the attack left the community reeling, with calls for increased security measures to protect lives and property.

Expressing concern over the safety of residents, one local resident expressed intentions to relocate his family to Gusau, seeking refuge from the persistent banditry plaguing the region. The attack has reignited calls for government intervention to stem the tide of violence and restore peace to Zamfara State.

Confirming the incident, Zamfara’s Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Shehu Dalijan, acknowledged the abduction of individuals during the attack but denied knowledge of fatalities. Despite the challenges, efforts are underway to bolster security around the palace and safeguard the Emir from further threats.

The attack on the Zurmi Emir’s Palace echoes a disturbing trend of bandit violence in Zamfara, underscoring the urgent need for coordinated action to address the root causes of insecurity and protect communities from further harm.
