Sector Commander Paul Okpe conveyed this somber news to journalists in Benin City while addressing the concerning trend of road crashes in the region. He detailed that these fatalities resulted from eight separate accidents during the specified period.

FRSC Records 614,051 Arrested Traffic Offenders Nationwide

The causes of these accidents, Okpe explained, ranged from brake failure and overspeeding to drunken driving, phone usage while driving, and route violations, among other factors.

Despite the ongoing efforts of the command to combat traffic violations, Okpe stressed the importance of motorists adhering to traffic regulations to prevent incidents like overloading, speeding, driving under the influence, night driving, and distracted driving.

In a post shared on his official X account on Monday, Shehu reacted to reports suggesting that only a small fraction of the Nigerian Army’s 2025 budget for security equipment has been released.

He stated that although over ₦20 billion was approved for the procurement of security equipment, only about ₦1.7 billion—roughly 7 percent—has reportedly been disbursed so far.

Shehu questioned the possible impact of the funding gap on troop safety, suggesting it could be linked to growing battlefield casualties.

The commentator further asked what had become of funds borrowed in the name of addressing insecurity, calling for accountability in their use.
