Reports from NivoNews indicate that the armed assailants, believed to be Fulani herdsmen, surrounded the community and launched a violent attack, leaving a trail of death and destruction in their wake.
According to eyewitnesses, the attackers, armed to the teeth, indiscriminately opened fire and set houses ablaze, catching the residents off guard. As of the time of this report, 27 bodies have been recovered, while local vigilante groups are combing the surrounding areas in search of missing individuals.
A community leader, speaking on condition of anonymity, disclosed that concerns of a potential invasion had been circulating for the past three weeks. Despite raising alarms with the recently appointed Local Government Council Caretaker Chairman, Mark Edibo, assurances of safety and protection were given, but tragically unfulfilled.
The source recounted that the violence stemmed from a dispute between a local resident and a Fulani herder over damaged yam tubers. Despite intervention by local authorities, tensions persisted, leading to the deadly attack.
Confirming the incident, Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer, SP William Ovye Aya, stated that the Commissioner of Police swiftly deployed a tactical squad comprising Mobile Police, Soldiers, and Vigilante men to the scene in response to a distress call.
While the exact number of casualties remains unconfirmed, SP Aya assured that efforts are underway to restore normalcy and provide assistance to those affected by the violence.
This tragic event underscores the urgent need for enhanced security measures and proactive interventions to prevent further bloodshed and protect vulnerable communities.

A Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, has sentenced Sunmonu Olasunkanmi Thaoban to four years in prison for laundering ₦16 million by disguising its illegal origins and converting it into a 2018 black G-Wagon Jeep.

Guilty Plea & Sentencing: Justice Akintayo Aluko handed down the sentence on Thursday after Thaoban pleaded guilty to a two-count EFCC charge, alongside an alternative fine option of ₦1.8 million.

The Offense: Prosecutors stated that Thaoban acted as a middleman in 2023, funneling illicit funds to purchase the luxury vehicle, violating the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022.

Asset Forfeiture: In addition to the prison term, the judge ordered the permanent forfeiture of both the convict’s G-Wagon and mobile phone to the Federal Government.

Following their guilty pleas, each received a 12-month prison sentence with an option of a ₦100,000 fine.
