Worshipers narrowly escaped death when a truck loaded with mangoes crashed into a mosque in Barade House, opposite the Old Licensing Office in Kontagora Local Government Area of Niger State……..READ ALSO
The incident occurred in the early hours of Friday, April 4, 2024.
According to sources, worshipers had just dispersed after Tahajud prayers when the truck crashed into the mosque.
The mosque was reportedly filled to capacity during the prayers, which coincided with the last ten days of Ramadan.
The section of the mosque affected by the crash is where women and children usually gather for Tahajud prayers.
The driver of the truck, which had departed from Bida, Niger state, and was en route to Sokoto with four passengers, reportedly fell asleep at the wheel, causing the vehicle to veer off the road.
The impact of the crash pushed one of the parked cars outside the mosque onto the veranda.
Fortunately, there were no casualties, but the mosque sustained damage.
Yahaya Suleiman, a resident, expressed gratitude that no lives were lost but noted the damage caused to the mosque.
One of the passengers in the truck, Mustapha Sokoto, recounted waking up on the ground after the crash.
He explained that he was asleep at the back of the truck during the incident and was unaware of what had happened.
Despite the damage to the mosque and the goods in the truck, none of the occupants sustained injuries.
