A devastating accident along the Ilesa-Ibodi road has claimed the life of a female staff member of the University of Ilesa. Eyewitnesses described scenes of panic as passersby rushed to rescue the victim trapped beneath the fallen container. Despite efforts to save her, the university staff member succumbed to her injuries.
A senior staff member, speaking on condition of anonymity, lamented the tragedy, stating, “The vehicle driven by our colleague was trapped under a container filled with cashew nuts being conveyed by a truck. She is feared dead.”
The accident resulted in a significant traffic backlog, hampering rescue operations and underscoring the urgency of road safety measures.
Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, expressed deep sorrow over the loss and called for a thorough investigation into the incident. He directed relevant authorities to ascertain the cause of the accident and hold accountable those responsible.
“I have directed the Commissioner for Transportation to act on the matter, including an immediate visit to the scene of the accident, the University of Ilesa, the family of the deceased, as well as new regulations on the usage of the narrow roads by heavy-duty trucks,” Governor Adeleke stated.
