In a tragic turn of events, gunmen launched a deadly attack in Buluku, on the outskirts of Gusau Local Government Area in Zamfara State, resulting in the death of Ashiru Nagoma and the abduction of his wife and neighbour.

The Zamfara State Police Command confirmed the incident, with ASP Yazid Abubakar providing details to reporters on Tuesday. According to Abubakar, the assailants specifically targeted Nagoma, fatally shooting him when he resisted, and subsequently abducted his wife and neighbour.

Additionally, reports from a Maiduguri-based security expert, Zagazola Makama, revealed that bandits raided Gusau town in the early hours of Tuesday, around 2 am, and kidnapped numerous worshippers from a mosque during tahajjud (midnight) prayers.

Abubakar clarified that the bandits’ primary focus was Nagoma, emphasizing that the mosque was not directly assaulted during the attack. He assured the public that rescue efforts were underway, with authorities working tirelessly to apprehend the perpetrators and ensure the safe return of the abducted victims.

Responding to the distressing incidents, Abubakar reiterated the commitment of law enforcement to bring the culprits to justice and urged the public to remain vigilant.

Eyewitnesses, including one identified as Garba, recounted the harrowing experience of worshippers abducted from a mosque in Tsafe town, Zamfara State, in a similar incident in February. Garba described how the bandits stormed the mosque during morning prayers, instilling fear and forcibly taking away unsuspecting individuals.

These recent attacks underscore the ongoing security challenges faced by communities in Zamfara State, with residents living in constant fear of violence and abduction by armed assailants.
