The Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), Ekiti State Branch, has distanced itself from Olalekan Timothy Fasipe, a suspected fake doctor recently apprehended on charges of forging his registration certificate with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN)……CONTINUE READING

Fasipe, employed by the Ekiti State Hospital Management Board, purported to be a qualified doctor without possessing the requisite certificates and qualifications.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Dr. Babatunde Rosiji, Chairman of the Ekiti NMA, and Dr. Moses Dada, Secretary, revealed that the association has been actively combating medical quackery in collaboration with the State Government through the Ministry of Health and Human Services.

The Ekiti NMA emphasized, “We have been shaken by the arrest of Olalekan Timothy Fasipe, an employee of the Hospitals’ Management Board, who also served as a member of Ekiti NMA State Officers’ Committee until his arrest.

“We have received communication from the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN), confirming that the name ‘Fasipe Olalekan Timothy’ is not listed in the Register of Medical Practitioners in Nigeria. Consequently, he has been arrested and is currently facing prosecution as advised by the MDCN.

“Following this recent revelation, we have formally advised Mr. Olalekan Timothy Fasipe to cease presenting himself as a doctor or as a member of our Association, as he has been found lacking the minimum qualifications to hold such titles. Through this statement, we hereby disassociate our Association from him and his activities.

“Our profession upholds high ethical standards, as our duty is to safeguard human lives. The rigorous training of medical doctors culminates in their inclusion on the register of Medical Practitioners in Nigeria, whether they are foreign-trained or locally-trained.

“We have maintained close collaboration with the Hospitals’ Management Board and the State Ministry of Health and Human Services to ensure thorough prosecution of this case.

“To reiterate, anyone not listed on the register of Medical Practitioners in Nigeria who presents themselves as a medical doctor is an impostor and will face legal consequences.

“We take this opportunity to caution anyone falsely claiming to be a medical doctor in Ekiti State that the law will catch up with them.”
