Como defender Trevoh Chalobah has revealed how difficult it was to leave Chelsea after spending 19 years at the club, despite believing he had enjoyed one of the best seasons of his career at Stamford Bridge.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The 27-year-old joined Como for £30 million during the summer transfer window after failing to secure a long-term future at Chelsea, where he progressed through the club’s academy before breaking into the senior team.
Chalobah joined Chelsea at the age of eight and had hoped to become a club legend. However, he eventually accepted that his career had taken a different direction.
Speaking to The Athletic, the defender admitted that he was satisfied with his individual performances despite Chelsea falling short of their targets last season.
“Definitely,” Chalobah said. “The team didn’t achieve what we wanted to achieve last season, but I thought I had one of my best seasons, playing the most games and scoring a few goals.”
Reflecting on his departure after nearly two decades at Stamford Bridge, Chalobah said he had always dreamed of leaving a lasting legacy at the club but understood that circumstances do not always go according to plan.
“I’d been there since I was eight and I wanted to be a legend there, but sometimes the way we plan things is not how things work out. As footballers, you’ve always got to be ready to adapt. You could be here one moment, then the next moment you’re somewhere else. But I just thought that it was the best,” he added.
Despite leaving Chelsea, the defender insisted that his connection with the club remains strong, revealing that he still follows their matches and maintains contact with players and staff.
“Chelsea means everything to me. I’m still watching the games, keeping in contact with the players and staff,” he said.
Chalobah’s departure followed several years of uncertainty over his role in Chelsea’s squad. In 2024, he spent time on loan at Crystal Palace before returning to Stamford Bridge six months later after Chelsea recalled him.
His move to Como, managed by former Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fàbregas, marks a new chapter in his career after his lengthy association with the London club.
Meanwhile, reports indicate that Chalobah missed Como’s 4-1 victory over Manchester United in the Champions League because of a muscle injury.
