A devastating attack by unidentified gunmen claimed the lives of at least 16 military personnel, including the Commanding Officer of the 181 Battalion, two Army Majors, and 13 soldiers. Reports indicate that many of the slain security personnel were gruesomely beheaded and dismembered by the assailants, with 14 bodies recovered and brought to the jetty of the Niger Delta Development Commission in Bomadi.
The troops, deployed to quell unrest between the Opuama and Okoloba communities in Ughelli South and Bomadi local government areas, fell victim to an ambush by the assailants.
In a heartfelt condolence message to the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, and the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen.
