Reports indicate that the abductors have demanded a hefty ransom of N1 billion ($620,432) for the release of the victims. Community leader Jubril Aminu, acting as a spokesperson for the families, received a call from the kidnappers, who issued an ultimatum of 20 days to meet their demands. Failure to comply would result in the killing of all the students and staff.

Confirming the ransom demand, elected official Idris Ibrahim from the Kuriga Ward municipal council stated that the kidnappers made the demand via Aminu’s phone. While efforts are underway to trace the source of the call, the authorities are grappling with the gravity of the situation.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Internal Security and Home Affairs in Kaduna State, Samuel Aruwan, assured that security forces are working to secure the release of the students. However, details regarding the response to the kidnappers’ demands remain undisclosed.

In a related development, Minister of Information Mohammed Idris revealed President Bola Tinubu’s stance on the Kuriga kidnappings. The President advocates for the hostages’ release without succumbing to ransom demands, emphasizing the need to prioritize security measures.

As the countdown to the ultimatum ticks away, concerned stakeholders and security agencies are urged to expedite efforts to ensure the safe return of the abducted students and staff, averting a potential tragedy in Kaduna State.
