In a recent statement shared on his official platform, Adejobi underscored the critical importance of collective action in addressing the prevailing security challenges. He emphasized that Section 30 of the Police Act of 2020 empowers citizens to take decisive action by apprehending any suspected individuals or criminals.
“INTERNAL SECURITY: Addressing insecurity in Nigeria demands our united commitment. Each citizen, including myself, has a crucial role to play,” Adejobi asserted. “As per Sec 30 of the Police Act 2020, you have the power to detain any suspect or criminal. A collective effort within our communities can significantly impact crime prevention and reduction. Let’s utilize our authority as citizens to mitigate insecurity in Nigeria. I am committed to fulfilling my duty as a Nigerian. What about you?”
This plea from the police spokesperson comes at a time when the nation is grappling with a surge in abduction cases reported across various states.
In a separate development, the Lagos State Police Command detained Afro singer Ibrahim Owodunni, widely known as Primeboy, during his scheduled visit to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Panti, Yaba. The arrest was instigated by a petition filed by Wunmi, the widow of the late singer Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, alleging defamation and other charges.
While Primeboy remains in custody, his associate, Ayobami Fisayo, also known as Spending, was subsequently released.
Benjamin Hundeyin, the Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed that the interrogation of Primeboy was part of an ongoing investigation into Mohbad’s demise.
The unfolding situation underscores the multifaceted nature of security challenges facing Nigeria and the imperative for concerted action from both law enforcement agencies and the citizenry to safeguard lives and property across the nation. As the nation navigates through these turbulent times, the call for vigilance and collective action echoes louder than ever.
