Addressing journalists at the party’s secretariat in Port Harcourt, Okocha accused Fubara of violating the Nigerian constitution by operating without a budget and neglecting to conduct local government elections. Moreover, he criticized the governor for withholding the monthly allocation of the 23 local government areas (LGAs) in the state.
“The governor does not have power to withhold the monthly allocation to the 23 local government councils in the state,” Okocha stated, emphasizing that Fubara’s unilateral actions have resulted in a lack of governance in Rivers State. He further criticized the governor for allegedly sidelining key stakeholders such as the Rivers State House of Assembly, the State Executive Council, and LGA chairmen.
According to Okocha, “There is no governance in Rivers State. The present administration is clueless and has no direction.”
However, the Rivers State government has swiftly responded, defending Fubara’s leadership and dismissing Okocha’s assertions as disconnected from the reality on the ground. Warisenibo Joe Johnson, the Commissioner for Information and Communications, asserted that Governor Sim Fubara is hailed by the majority of Rivers people for his transformative leadership, which is reshaping the state’s political landscape.
Johnson criticized Okocha for being out of touch with the state’s progress, affirming that Governor Fubara is spearheading a comprehensive revitalization effort across all 23 LGAs.
As tensions rise between the APC chairman and the Rivers State government, the call for Fubara’s resignation underscores the deepening political rifts within the state, raising questions about the future of governance and leadership in Rivers State.
