Addressing members of the Kongolam border community in Mai’adua Local Government Area of Katsina State, Adeniyi responded to calls for border reopening, assuring that consultations and engagements were underway regarding the matter.

“Once consultations are concluded, a decision will be taken on the matter,” he affirmed.

Adeniyi further assured that the Service is committed to removing barriers hindering free trade, aligning with the current administration’s agenda of fostering economic prosperity.

He highlighted proactive measures to reduce the number of checkpoints along border posts and enhance cooperation between Service personnel and traders.

“We are mindful of the concerns of border communities, particularly regarding the number of checkpoints and border closure,” Adeniyi stated.

Acknowledging the concerns raised by residents, Adeniyi noted that confiscated food items would be released for sale in Nigerian markets, following directives from President Tinubu.

Moreover, he disclosed collaborative efforts with the Police and sister agencies to address challenges obstructing free trade in border areas.

“We will continue to monitor and ensure that food produced in Nigeria remains and is consumed in Nigeria,” Adeniyi emphasized, stressing the need for collective action to support government efforts in enforcing laws prohibiting food item exportation during the current period of national food insufficiency.
